Ruth Shlovsky is a Blue Badge guide and City of London Guide. She will show us, in detail, items in the British Museum which clearly show Jews depicted, some as far back as 4000 years ago.
This is the story of the secret listeners (Jewish refugees and emigres) who eavesdropped on Hitler’s generals and thousands of German prisoners of war in detention in country houses in Britain.
Dr. Helen Fry is a historian and lecturer in Second World War studies and is the expert on the ‘secret listeners’.

A visit to the beautiful, refurbished Weizmann House, the home of Chaim and Vera Weizmann. This will be followed by lunch at Cafe Mada, Weizmann Institute, a kosher dairy restaurant. You can also bring your own lunch to have in the delightful Institute gardens. After lunch there will be a visit to the Ayalon Institute – bullet factory. This was a secret ammunition factory, disguised as part of a kibbutz, to fool the British in the 1940s.
The bus will leave Kikar Ha’atsmaut at 8.30 a.m., will pick ups in Ir Yamim and possibly Tel Aviv.

Ellie and Steve are part of a group which travels to Jewish communities around the world. In 2012 the group travelled to Ethiopia to learn about the Jewish Ethiopian experience. An Israeli Ethiopian teenager, an orphan who made aliya at the age of 12, travelled with them. The talk will be accompanied by slides.
This event is free, but registration is essential.
