HOB National is organising a Chol Hamoed Succot Picnic. The venue will be Neot Kedumim Park (www.neot-kedumim.org.il/) which is located between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and has over 600 acres (2,500 dunams).
We will have our own private English speaking guide to make the visit enjoyable and informative for all. Among other things we will be able to check out the various succah styles at the life-sized succah exhibition and walk through the gardens of the Four Species Everywhere we go we will be able to experience the sights and smells of the plants and get to understand their relevance to the history of the Jewish People and the Land of Israel.
During Succot cars are not permitted in the park but coaches with guides are. We are planning to hire a coach or two which would travel from Zichron Yaakov, Netanya, Raanana, Petah Tikva and Tel Aviv. It will also be possible for those who wish to make their own way there and join the coach at the park. We are expecting a large number of people from all over Israel to this event, so in order to ensure that there is room for everyone who wants to come we have decided to make this a pre-paid event. If you are interested please register NOW as places must be booked and paid for by 11th October.
At each point of interest in the park we will get off the coach in order to experience the sights, smells and sounds to the full. At some stops there is a small amount of easy walking in order to appreciate the park properly.
This will be a full day event and we have allowed time in the schedule for a bring-your-own-from-home picnic lunch. There will also be time during the afternoon to enjoy the many special activities that the park organizes over Succot. We have made an effort to keep costs to a minimum: 120 shekels per person for coach, entrance & guide while those joining the coach at the park will pay 80 shekels per person which includes entrance & guide.
Please contact your local chairman or Nadia for payment details.
Bookings should be made by 9th October
This promises to be a most interesting and sociable event. It would be wonderful to fill two coaches and double the fun of the day.

A Small Step to the Moon but a Giant Leap in Undertsanding of the Jewish Calendar of its Day – A talk by Barbara Moont
The Earth goes around the sun every year and the moon goes around the earth every month. The Jewish calendar is based on both of these rotations. Around the year 350, Hillel HaNasi started the Jewish calendar of today. His accuracy was not equaled by the Western calendar for another 1000 years.
Barbara will explain the history of the Jewish calendar. She will also talk about the moon landings starting in 1969, when she worked on the Apollo project.
The history, conservation & digitization of the Dead Sea Scrolls, presented by Orit Rosengarten, Assistant to the Director of the Dead Sea Scrolls Project at the Israel Antiquities Authority.
